Roads pose a significant barrier to bee movement, mediated by road size, traffic and bee identity

چکیده

Roads are a major driver of environmental stress, yet we know surprisingly little about how roads impact the movement insect pollinators, and consequent pollination. We investigated influence on pollinator pollination by examining patterns pigment transfer between focal plants two species, Coreopsis verticillata Monarda fistulosa. asked whether reduced transfer, what characteristics were important in driving this reduction. also evaluated assemblage differed if mediated effect transfer. Plants across road from pigment-added plant received significantly less than same side road. This was stronger for coreopsis monarda. The mean body size visitors to smaller that monarda, suggesting bees more limited roads. Road width best predictor with traffic volume; further research is needed fully disentangle effects different characteristics. Roadside habitat had roadside did not receive contiguous habitat. Synthesis applications. study demonstrates pose substantial barriers bee movement, reducing pollen flow located roadways one another. characteristics, particularly volume, effect, as size. Our results suggest pollinators can be mitigated many design strategies currently being implemented reduce human accidents, offering opportunity win–win scenarios.

Automatic Identification of Bee Movement

Identifying and recording animal movements is a critical, but time-consuming step in behavior research. The task is especially onerous in studies involving social insects because of the number of animals that must be observed simultaneously. To address this, we present a system that can automatically analyze animal movement, and label it, on the basis of examples provided by a human expert. For...

A Honey Bee Algorithm To Solve Quadratic Assignment Problem

Assigning facilities to locations is one of the important problems, which significantly is influence in transportation cost reduction. In this study, we solve quadratic assignment problem (QAP), using a meta-heuristic algorithm with deterministic tasks and equality in facilities and location number. It should be noted that any facility must be assign to only one location. In this paper, first o...

Do the pollution related to high-traffic roads in urbanised areas pose a significant threat to the local population?

Many large neighbourhoods are located near heavy-traffic roads; therefore, it is necessary to control the levels of air pollution near road exposure. The primary air pollutants emitted by motor vehicles are CO, NO2 and PM. Various investigations identify key health outcomes to be consistently associated with NO2 and CO. The objective of this study was the measurement-based assessment for determ...

The bee microbiota as a barrier against disease.

There are many fish in the sea, but having a large school to choose from doesn’t make mate choice decisions any easier. In fact, selecting a mate requires members of the choosing sex to process, integrate and recall a great deal of information related to mate quality across many potential mates. As this choice is directly related to fitness, it stands to reason that the cognitive ability of the...
